Journey of the Zodiac

I feel very grateful to have been part of this project. We began brainstorming the idea a for long time and planned to work together in Athens for ten days to make it happen. It was fun, inspiring and very fulfilling to create these images and texts. 

The prints from Journey of the Zodiac are a collaboration between artist Eloise Fornieles, curator Alix Janta-Polczynski and myself combining text and imagery to tell the narrative of the Zodiac in an artistic and innovative way.

I wrote the text next to each image which narrates the story of each sign but mainly the reason why one sign follows another. The story of the Zodiac is for me immensely inspiring as it expresses our history as humans. Knowing why Taurus comes after Aries and then transforms into Gemini is key to understanding the essential quality of a sign. Otherwise we can stay in stereotypes and end up limiting or pinning down each sign rather than allowing freedom to the energetic quality to exist in infinite ways. This is why in every image we made reference to the preceding sign and the following one as well as the element, ruling planet, the part of the body, mythology, colour, any instrument or concept and evolutionary process.

Aquarius has the idea of universal love, but Pisces is the one that can feel it and make it happen.  

Pisces represents the Zodiac altogether, the collective unconsciousness. 

The last sign of the zodiac, Pisces tends to be dreamy and distracted, hoping to create a little magic with which to escape the limitations of life. Highly compassionate and devoted to others, Pisces recognises no boundaries between people as it’s a sign concerned in wholeness and universality. 

Here we have the dreamer, the mystic, the poet, the storyteller - with Pisces imagination transcends. It leads us to the unknown. Sacrifice, the notion of the saviour, martyrdom and redemption are associated with Pisces. Spiritual development is fundamental for this sign. 

They are sensitive, compassionate, receptive, imaginative, dreamy, impressionable, idealistic. With Neptune as its contemporary ruler, we can think that they will be attracted to anything that gets them out of their bodies: spirituality, creativity, inspiration, religion, drugs, alcohol, dreams.

There is a strongly romantic and idealistic aspect to Pisces, which prefers not to dwell on common sense, favouring instead the creation of magic between people. Soaking up the emotions, hopes and sadness of others almost indiscriminately, Pisces can overflow with psychic material and consequently get confused to what is happening to them or to others. 

Integrating their opposite, Virgo, will teach them to separate and discern what is there energy and what is from the other. Working on cultivating boundaries will enrich their lives as their connection with the heavens, the intangible would be clearer and even more magical.
